The Frank Friar - Episode 103: Words of Heroism for your life from Bl. Titus Brandsma

Recently, the Carmelite order on July 27th celebrated the memorial of Bl. Titus Brandsma. He was a Dutchman who worked to keep the Nazis and their ideology out of the catholic schools and newspapers in Holland. Today, I read a sermon he gave during the war years calling people to heroism in faith and love against the new-paganism of the Nazis. I have always been inspired by this sermon and so I wanted to share it with you all. If you like my podcast please make sure to subscribe to the podcast it really does help me. The topic of today’s podcast deals with a sensitive topic of sexual abuse. As a new priest I share some of my thoughts about this issue and the terrible harm he has caused people. I also as for the prayers of you all as a new priest. The Frank Friar - Episode 100: Saint Elijah and my 100th episode!

Today is my 100th episode!!! Oh, happy day. July 20th is the feast of St. Elijah. We are one of the only groups in the Western Church that still celebrates old testament figures. For the episode today I wanted to talk about a specific moment in the life of Elijah. As he has been a source of guidance and support for the Carmelites, may he be so for your life also. The episode today is going out on the Feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. In the episode I talk about some of the scriptural passages that the Order of Carmel uses for this feast day. The Frank Friar - Episode 98: Beauty, a Funeral, and a Thought

I had a funeral in the Parish last week. At my parish we pay to have cantors come and sing at the mass to offer some beauty to the family during their hard times. In the podcast episode I reflect on the people’s response to this moment of beauty. If you like my podcast please make sure to subscribe to the podcast it really does help me. The Frank Friar - Episode 96: Freedom: Do Good and Avoid Evil!

This episode is going up on July 4th an important day for those in USA. The readings at Mass have us wrestling with the Prophet Amos. Amos should make us all uncomfortable. What is Freedom? What does it mean to be free and to be a Christian in the world? These are just a few ideas I touch upon in the episode today. Happy 4th of July to all my listeners in the USA. The Frank Friar - Episode 97: Placing Labels on God

The Gospel reading from the 14th Sunday of Ordinary got me thinking. Thinking about what? Our relationship with God. The gospel was the beginning of Mark 6, the passage where the Family of Jesus start to reject him. Within the passage it appears to me that His family has applied a lot of labels onto Jesus, labels that he is breaking. The podcast episode today goes into this topic. The Frank Friar - Episode 95: Death: A Wake Up Call!

In the episode today, I find myself reflecting upon the recent Sunday readings for the 13th Sunday of ordinary time. The topics of sin, death, and God’s place in all of it comes to front and cause us to encounter these unfun topics. Also, as my mind was stewing on these things I am also still dealing with a local death of a child, killed by other kids in my area. This is a loaded episode, but I hope it helps you in your life.
